Frequently Asked Questions:

HOW WILL I KNOW IF THE SESSIONS ARE HELPING?

I will first invite the parents, children or teens for a conversation and we will assess the situation together deciding a way forward. I usually offer a review of the work after 6 sessions and while respecting confidentiality I am happy to discuss any progress at any time.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?

Typically I would meet with the child/adolescent weekly for 50 min. After our initial meeting the minimum amount of sessions I can offer is 6. And sometimes this can be helpful but we can not forget that everybody is different and a trusting relationship does take time to develop. How long it takes for counselling to help also depends on the nature and complexity of the difficulties the children/young people are experiencing.

I HAVE NOTICED THAT YOU ALSO OFFER REIKI AND ENERGY HEALING. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN THESE TREATMENTS FOR MY CHILD.

I am also trained as Reiki Master Teacher and Energy Healer. But I do not include these therapies in my counselling sessions with children and young people unless parents specifically request it.

AS A PARENT/ADOLESCENT I AM PUTTING A LOT OF TRUST IN YOU. HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS JUSTIFIED?

I am DBS checked. I am also a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotheray) and adhere to their extensive code of ethics which you can find on their website. And please do not hesitate to speak to me about any questions you might have in addition to that.

MY MOTIVATION TO DO THIS WORK:

We all know that life is not always easy and that our children are at their most vulnerable when they have to deal with the adversities life sometimes throws at them. My own personal healing process took me back into my childhood in numerous ways and this inspired me to look at ways to support children and adolescents in their wellbeing and development. I have worked with children for most of my life in various settings of childcare and education including holiday camps, youth clubs, homework support, providing mental health support and at a children's secure unit. I have also undergone an intensive, integrative training using psychotherapeutic approaches, arts, play and counselling skills to be able to help children to make sense and cope with the difficulties they might be facing.
